Event – Mental Health Breakfast Forum
Psychological injuries – cognitive, emotional and behavioural symptoms that affect how a worker feels, thinks and interacts with others – are increasing amongst the Australian workforce. According to Work Safe Australia, whilst still relatively small, mental health conditions account for an increasing number of serious claims, rising from six per cent in 2014-15 to nine per cent in 2020-21. The average time lost per serious claim was 30.7 weeks – having risen from 18.8 weeks between 2015-16, whilst the median compensation paid was $55,270, compared to $13,883 for physical injuries and diseases.
Psychologists from Access Psych and IPAR have come together to host a free Mental Health Breakfast Forum in Canberra on Thursday, March 9, 2023, to explore psychological injury claims, including ways to work effectively with treating psychologists to achieve the best outcomes for workers with psychological injuries, and tips to enhance resilience and self-care for claim managers, employers and Injury Management Experts supporting people with psychological injuries.
The interactive forum will hear from different speakers with extensive industry experience, including Sarah Nesbitt, Registered Psychologist and Operations Manager from Access Psych, and Aleena Jambazian, Registered Psychologist from IPAR. Sarah and Aleena will be sharing their experiences in the industry, providing insights and tips around psychological injury claims. This will be followed by a panel discussion with leaders from across the industry, where participants will be able to ask questions.
