Professional experience

Jennifer (Jen) is a Mental Health Social Worker who has gained a range of experience across various roles and locations since graduating in 2010.

Jen started out in Sydney, NSW, working in a refuge for women and children escaping family violence. After a year, she relocated to Geelong, Victoria, where she spent the next decade working in various roles, from providing therapeutic supports for families who were at risk of Child Protection involvement, to supporting patients in healthcare settings with navigating the relevant systems while adjusting to unexpected health and life changes.

Jen joined the community health social work team in Tasmania in early 2020 and remains part of the Tasmanian Health Service today, providing clinical social work supports. This includes providing therapeutic counselling for adults whose mental health has been compromised by mental illness, unexpected adverse life events, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety, stress, grief and loss, and complex physical health conditions that can affect a person’s capacity to independently complete activities of daily living and maintain quality of life

What Jennifer loves about working in mental health

I’m always grateful for the opportunity to work with people to find meaning and purpose in their life, whilst empowering them to rise above unexpected challenges to achieve their goals, because as Friedrich Nietzsche once famously said, “He who has a why can bear almost any how”.”
